Environment: Veeam server installed on a Windows Server (VS), a Windows 10 Client (C) is set to be backed up. Both are in the same domain controlled by a DC.

  1. Network discovery and file sharing on (C) need to be enabled –they are all off by default for the domain network for some reason. Otherwise, I got the error “the network name cannot be found”.

    • To check if this is working, on the VS, try to access \(C)\admin$ and see if you can log in using the intended credentials.

  2. When entering the credentials, the domain name cannot be omitted (domain\user). Otherwise, I got the error “the username or password is incorrect”.
