Eclipses

Annular Solar Eclipse: June 10, 2021

This observation was performed in Evanston, Illinois. Partial eclipse observed during the sunrise.

Camera: Canon EOS 500D. Lens: Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM.

Total Lunar Eclipse: January 20, 2019

This observation was performed in Evanston, Illinois.

Camera: Canon EOS 500D. Lens: Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM.

Total Solar Eclipse: August 21, 2017

This observation was performed in Vienna, Illinois.

The observation equipment includes a Celestron Travel Scope 70 refractor (D = 70 mm, F = 400 mm) coupled with a Canon EOS 450D, and a Canon EOS 500D with Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens.

Total Lunar Eclipse: September 27, 2015

The two images below were taken in front of the Deering Library of Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.

Camera: Canon EOS 450D. Lens: Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM.

Partial Lunar Eclipse: January 1, 2010

This observation was performed at the Hanggao Astronomical Observatory, Hangzhou High School.

The imaging system includes a Celestron C8 Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube (D = 203.2 mm, F = 2032 mm at S-C focus) and a QHY8 APS COLOR camera with Peltier cooling.

Total Solar Eclipse: July 22, 2009

This observation was performed in Anji, Zhejiang Province, China. There was almost no photography left because I was busy working on a gravitational lens experiment at that time. Below are some random pictures taken during the partiality.

The images were taken by a Canon EOS 450D with Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens.

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse: February 9, 2009

This observation was performed at the Hanggao Astronomical Observatory, Hangzhou High School.

I cannot recall exactly what facility I used. The camera is a QHY8 APS COLOR camera with Peltier cooling.

“Hey, where are the photos for the other Eclipses you went to?”

Well, this is usually what happened on those days (shot on August 1, 2008 in Mazongshan, Gansu Province, China; Canon EOS 350D with Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens):

Those days include (wish this list does not go longer anymore):

  • Partial Solar Eclipse: October 25, 2010 (Hangzhou, China)

  • Total Solar Eclipse: August 1, 2008 (Mazongshan, Gansu Province, China)
